A southern Washington construction company with decades of success in the residential market retained us for architectural services on their move into commercial development. This 3,500 square foot retail building accommodates Starbucks and a second tenant. It is designed to have a clean, modern look yet be easy to construct with wood framing methods typically used in residential construction. During the design process, we applied our engineering know-how to reduce costs while maintaining a sophisticated appearance. Rather than using an expensive longspan window wall system, the 16-foot high glazing on the front of the store is built up of multiple banks of standard storefront framing supported by structural steel crossmembers, saving on material costs as well as installation time.
